Let us invite you to the Bohemian Paradise – a picturesque region situated 90 km north of Prague capital. The name expresses the unique harmony of the natural beauty of sandstone rock cities and varied landscape with valuable historical sights and folk architecture. The Bohemian Paradise is included in the UNESCO list in the category of geopark. It is an excellent opportunity how to spend your holiday discovering beautiful nature and history – you will pass through narrow corridors of rock cities, interesting rock labyrinths and splendid viewpoints and you will also visit the little rock castles ruins. You will go along well-marked tourist paths. The length of the 1 day route is 10 – 26 km. There is also possibility to modify the route for bikers. The cozy hotel room and nice stuff prepared to realize your wish will be award on every day of your stay here in the Bohemian Paradise. The luggage transfer is ensured during the stay in the Bohemian Paradise.

What to Expect

Walk easy by narrow corridors of 97 million years old rocks of UNESCO geopark. Feel aroma of pine forest to arrive to medival castles. Enter into timber house to watch how locals lived. Nature full of life birdsong in contrast with cold sandstone. Look around to rocks and countryside from many viewpoints. Discover region marked also by baroque include ponds.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival

Yes, here it is. Your walking holiday is just starting. You are probably arriving at the international Vaclav Havel airport Prague according to a flight schedule during the day. Now we will help you have to ger smoothly to your first spot in Bohemian Paradise (Jičín).

Variant a) Transfer by public transportation (we will advise connection).

Variant b) Privat transfer by our car (by extra charge).

You will see: Jičín, historic town build by Albrecht from Wallenstein. One of the prettiest towns in the Czech Republic and the east gate to Bohemian Paradise. You will walk up to Wallenstein tower look around and discover the local museum in the chateau. After that relax in chateau gardens.

Accommodation: hotel*** Jičín

The hotel is situated near the center of the town. It is a hotel with a nice restaurant with Czech cuisine and comfortable spacious rooms. If clients arrive during the day, there is enough time to visit a picturesque Renaissance town of Jičín.

Day 2Jičín - Prachovské Skály Rocks

Basic route: 11 km + circuit trip through the Prachovské skály rocks.

Shortened route: 7,5 km + circuit trip through the Prachovské skály rocks 3,5 km.

The route leads to undulating terrain and ends in a rugged rock city.

You will see: walk up to basalt sharp hill Zebín after that walk by countryside to close Prachovské skály sandstone rocks (well-known from Hollywoods films – Carnival row), probably most famous from other 11 in region.

Accommodation: Hotel*** Parkhotel Skalní Město, Prachovské skály

Hotel is situated in a romantic part of a natural reservation of Prachovské skály rocks.

Day 3Prachovské Skály Rocks - Sobotka

Basic route: 16 km.

The walk in a mild terrain with beautiful views.

You can see: Firstly you discover rock ruins of Pařez, have a great view to Trosky castle (later this trek) than walk to village Mladějov and continue to Sobotka, here you could visit small round hunters castle Humprecht

Accommodation: hotel*** Pošta Sobotka.

Day 4Sobotka - Hrubá Skála

Basic route: 26 km (24 km).

Shortered route: 18 km.

The route runs through the undulating terrain of enchanting valleys with nice views and romantic castles. Firstly you will walk through the most typical Czech village, than through a very nice village which is ending by medival castle.

The hotel is situated in a former chateau standing on the rock blocks with an unique view.

You will see: Vesec, Plakánek, Kost, Podtrosecká valleys and Trosky

Day 5Hrubá Skála - Malá Skála

Basic route: 20 km (22 km).

Shortened route: 15,5 km (17,5 km).

The trail leads in a rock city in hilly terrain with nice views and little rock castles. Firstly you will be walking through 97 million years old rock formation and standing on first out-standing viewpoints. Discover ruins and chapel on a rock as your hotel last night hotel and coming to special place where you will see Turnov and Jizera river valley. Could have lunch in Turnov town and continue by to wooden farmstead through Drábovna to the old castle. From your next and today the last castle you will see the valley and descend down to the village.

You will see: Hrubá Skála rock city, Valdštejn castle ruins, Hlavatice view on a rock, Turnov town, Dolánky timbered farmstead, Frýdštejn and Vranov castle

Accommodation: hotel Skála Malá Skála.

Day 6Tour around Malá Skála

Basic route: 16 km.

A diverse track with a hill-climbing first (you will pass easy) after the following river walk around a majestic rock formation and passing through a rock labyrinth later. When you will easily find a path outside come back to Malá Skála.

You will see: Malá Skála, Vranov, Suché skály rocks, Besedické skály rocks, Kozákov

Accommodation: hotel Malá Skála.

Day 7Departure

Yes, your holiday in Bohemian Paradise just finished. Hopefully, you are full of memories. We will help how to get back to Prague. You could extend your stay in the Czech republic by a few nights in Prague.

The fastest transport to the Bohemian Paradise – Jičín, based on the previously taxi booking. The driver will wait for clients in the airport hall when they check in. He will has the poster with the name of CzechWalks in his hands. Travel time by a taxi from the Prague airport to Jičín is until 1,5 hours.

Hiking in Czechia

If you get in trouble, you will call to english-speaking Petr.

All tracks are leading along the tourist very well-marked paths. Tourist mark for hikers has an uniform size of 10 cm x 10 cm. There are used the following colours in the Czech Republic: red, blue, green and yellow. Margins are white. Attention! In case that you loose the tourist mark, you will have to go back on the place, where you saw it for the last time. You will also have to take care of disgressions. You will also see bigger marks, which are for bikers and their edges are yellow. We are able to change the route on the client wish, e.g. incl. the train or bus ride.
